Our Story
Midnight Moss was born from grief, healing, and growth.
Five years ago, my world changed forever. My grandfather, the person who had always been my biggest supporter and the closest thing I had to a father ,passed away. Before I could even begin to process that loss, my grandmother passed away shortly after. The weight of losing them both so close together completely overwhelmed me.
I fell into a deep depression. Simple things became difficult. My home felt heavy, my motivation disappeared, and I struggled to care for myself the way I once had. I knew I needed something — anything — to help me find peace again.
That’s when I remembered my great-grandmother. I used to spend time in her garden while waiting for my grandfather to pick me up. She would tend to rows of plants and flowers while I helped. Inside her home there were house plants on every table and I’d help her tend to those as well. Looking back now, those moments were the most peaceful memories from my childhood.
So one day, I planted a watermelon seed.
As it began to grow, something inside me started growing too. Every morning I would check on it with excitement. For the first time in a long time, I felt hope. I didn’t realize it then, but while I was watering that little plant, I was slowly watering my own roots too.
Then one day, a squirrel stole the watermelon.
I was devastated but I also couldn’t bring myself to harm any animals. So instead, I became determined to learn how to garden in harmony with nature. That fall and winter, I read everything I could, watched countless videos, and learned how to protect plants safely and naturally.
When spring arrived, I was ready. My garden flourished, and so did I.
As the outdoor growing season came to an end, I worried the sadness would return. That’s when my fiancé suggested I get a houseplant. One houseplant quickly became many… and eventually turned into over 120 plants filling our home.
Caring for plants became part of my healing journey. Every damaged leaf I trimmed away felt like releasing a piece of pain I had been carrying. Every new leaf reminded me that growth is still possible after loss. As I nurtured my plants, I slowly began to nurture myself again.
Midnight Moss was created from that journey.
What started as a single seed became a passion, a place of peace, and eventually a business built on healing, learning, and connection. We believe plants do more than decorate spaces…they comfort us, teach patience, bring life into our homes, and remind us that growth often begins in the darkest seasons.
Thank you for being here and allowing us to grow alongside you.
